Agreed. I see in this morning's paper oil hit 80 USD / barrel. Things are changing. I see the primitive but profitable Chinese two-wheel tractors that are extremely popular in Bangladesh (numbers at 350,000), Sri Lanka (130,000) and now Nepal (10,...

APCAEM's 6th Director in 6 years.

The last remaining and very troubled agricultural engineering institution for support in international development, UN's Asian Pacific Center for Agricultural Engineering and Machinery (APCAEM) has recently changed its director for 6th time in as many years. Ms. Ai Yuxin , a former Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who recently took over the helm as Officer-in-Charge some months back replacing Mr. Mukherjee...... who replaced Mr. Choo, who replaced Mr. Ping (Acting), who replaced Mr.… Continue

Scott,

I am writing in connection with the Cooperative Farm Initiative for Haiti plans for a fund raiser in Washington DC on June 2nd. As you may already know this is my non-profit that will be utilizing a portion of my land in Haiti to bring about sustainable agricultural development through the use of modernized farm methods and machinery. In all, the point is to form a collective, and help the farmers combine their crops to leverage their negotiating power. More than that, the Coop is to serve as a resource center, whereby farmers get information and seedlings, etc. I am partnering with other organizations to carry out this process.

Now, this project has turned me into a beggar of sorts at times. My associates and I are organizing a fundraiser here in Washington, DC and would be honored to have you make a guest appearance. I understand you to be a subject matter expert on small farms in developing countries. I am obviously VERY interested in what you could share as are many of those who will be in attendance. The target date is June 2nd. In the meantime, my partner and I have just recently finished paying for our tractor in Haiti. The planting season is here, we need to clear and till land in preparation for the May planting, in addition to the tractor, we have implements to finish purchasing for use with the tractor.

I was wondering about your ability to donate the use of your time for our event. If you are able and willing to make such a donation, please let me know. Even if you cannot at this time I would love to discuss with you "HOW" we might be able to do so in the very near future..

Kindest Regards,

cJ - Jean Valerus, Co-Executive Director

Scott,

Many thanks for taking the time to change the photo. Looking at the Zero Tillage sign I guess that you know Theo Friedrichs from FAO who is also a member of the Network, since he has done a great deal of work promoting conservation agriculture. Just before Christmas I was working on a mechanization project in North Korea and in two weeks time I hope to be in Iran for a short time working for UNIDO,

Regards,

Trevor.

Scott,

Welcome to the Global Farm Machinery Network. I'm not sure if you are still in Nepal? Please feel free to start a Discussion Group, Forum or add photos, videos etc. If at some time you could change the Scott photo that would be good since some might think that I am making members up. Hopefully more people in the agricultural engineering field will join in the future but I realise that it will take a little time.

Regards,

Trevor Cree
